Marketplace Shift Notifications Guide

Overview

The Shifts Marketplace notification system delivers targeted alerts about available shifts based on your qualifications, location assignments, and availability. This guide explains how notifications work and how to configure your preferences.

How Notifications Are Targeted

Shift notifications are intelligently targeted to reach only the most relevant staff members based on several factors:

Location-Based Targeting

  • Primary Location Priority: Staff assigned to a location as their primary work location receive notifications first
  • Secondary Locations: Staff with the location set as a secondary assignment receive notifications if they meet other eligibility criteria
  • Location Requirements: You will only receive notifications for shifts at locations where you are assigned

Role and Skill Qualifications

  • Role Requirements: For shifts requiring specific roles, only staff with matching role types receive notifications
  • Skill Requirements: The system checks if you possess the required skills and proficiency levels for the shift
  • Certification Status: For skills requiring certification, the system verifies your certification is active and not expired

Availability Matching

  • Schedule Conflicts: You won’t receive notifications for shifts that conflict with your existing schedule
  • Declared Availability: Notifications are only sent for shifts during times you’ve marked as available
  • Time Preferences: The system respects your minimum rest period between shifts

Types of Notifications

New Shift Listings

When a colleague lists a shift in the marketplace, eligible staff receive notifications through:

  • In-App Notifications: Always delivered to qualified staff
  • Email Notifications: Sent if you’ve enabled this option in your preferences
  • SMS Notifications: Sent if you’ve enabled this option and verified your phone number

Open Shifts

When managers post open shifts that need staffing:

  • General Open Shifts: Notifies all eligible staff based on location, role, and skill requirements
  • Targeted Notifications: Personalized notifications for shifts that match your specific qualifications

Application Status Updates

  • Application Received: Notifies the shift owner when someone applies to take their shift
  • Status Changes: Notifies applicants when their application is accepted or rejected

Configuring Your Notification Preferences

Accessing Your Preferences

  1. Navigate to your Account Settings
  2. Select “Notification Preferences”
  3. Find the “Marketplace Notifications” section

Available Settings

  • Email Notifications:
    • Enable/disable all marketplace email notifications
    • Configure specific notification types:
      • New shift listings
      • When your listings are claimed
      • When someone applies for your shift
      • Application status updates
  • SMS Notifications:
    • Enable/disable all marketplace SMS notifications
    • Configure specific notification types:
      • New shift listings
      • When your listings are claimed

Admin Settings

Administrators can configure business-wide notification settings:

  • Enhanced Targeting Options:
    • Check user availability for notifications
    • Check skill requirements for notifications
    • Check shift conflicts for notifications
    • Prioritize primary locations

These settings can be adjusted in the Admin Settings area under “Marketplace Settings.”

Best Practices

  • Keep Your Availability Updated: Regularly update your availability to ensure you receive notifications for shifts when you’re actually available
  • Maintain Skills Information: Keep your skills and certifications up to date to receive appropriate shift opportunities
  • Set Location Preferences: Configure your primary and secondary location preferences for better targeting
  • Configure Notification Preferences: Adjust your notification settings to receive alerts through your preferred channels

Troubleshooting

Not Receiving Expected Notifications?

  • Check Availability: Ensure you’ve marked yourself as available during the shift time
  • Verify Qualifications: Confirm you have the necessary skills and role type for the shift
  • Location Assignment: Verify you’re assigned to the location where the shift is posted
  • Notification Settings: Check that you have enabled the relevant notification types
  • Contact Manager: If you believe you should be receiving notifications for specific shifts, contact your manager to verify your profile configuration
